Data center proposal up for debate before Allentown Planning Commission
Quantum Group LLC is seeking approval to convert a vacant warehouse in Allentown into an 80-megawatt data center. The proposal, which includes sound attenuation walls and an electrical substation, faces public opposition and is scheduled for consideration by the Allentown Planning Commission.
Quantum Group LLC has proposed converting vacant warehouse space in Allentown into an 80-megawatt data center. The latest proposal involves a site at 1024 N. Bradford Street, adjacent to Coca-Cola Park, while earlier descriptions identified the warehouse at 2401 W. Emmaus Avenue.
The project has undergone revisions in response to planning commission feedback, including proposed sound attenuation walls and an electrical substation. Owen Levan-Uhler of Lehigh Valley Stands Up said opponents remain concerned about the facility’s proximity to homes, businesses, a middle school and Camelot for Children. Allentown Managing Director Frank Kane confirmed the latest address, and the city’s planning commission is expected to decide the land development application.
