Sioux City officials addressed a mislabeling on the city council's agenda regarding a potential data center location. The agenda item incorrectly identified a 720-acre parcel in the Morningside area, just off Old Highway 141, as a proposed data center site.
According to Sioux City's Public Works Director Tom Pingel, the city's Economic Development Department had requested the item to broadly identify future development possibilities, not a specific data center project. Marty Dougherty, the Sioux City Economic and Community Development Director, confirmed the item was mislabeled. The property owner also stated they had no knowledge of their land being on the agenda for this purpose.
Officials emphasized that there are currently no plans at this time for a data center at the identified location, clarifying the confusion caused by the agenda item. The City Council was primarily set to approve a preliminary engineering study for a regional retention basin program across several areas of the city for approximately $67,000.
