Indianapolis official's home attacked after vote in favor of controversial data center

Indianapolis City-County Councilor Ron Gibson reported that his home was shot at approximately 13 times in the early hours of Monday morning, while he and his 8-year-old son were inside. A threatening note, "no data centers," was found at his doormat, connecting the incident to a recent vote on a proposed half-billion-dollar Metrobloks data center project in the city's Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. The shooting occurred days after Gibson voted to approve the rezoning for the data center, a decision that has faced intense opposition from local residents. Gibson defended his vote, stating the project met standards and would bring significant investment, jobs, and long-term tax revenue to the area. He affirmed that the attack would not deter him from serving his district. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), assisted by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, is investigating the incident as an "isolated, targeted incident." Local leaders, including City-County Council President Maggie A. Lewis and Mayor Joe Hogsett, along with Republican council members and even the coalition opposing the data center project, have condemned the violence, reiterating their commitment to peaceful advocacy.
