Google considers Wood Haven Tech Park for data center
Google is evaluating Wood Haven Technology Park in the Roanoke region as a potential data center site, with due diligence expected to continue through March 2027. The Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility says the project could create jobs and expand the tax base, while critics have raised concerns about the facility’s water consumption from the Spring Hollow reservoir.
Google is considering Wood Haven Technology Park as a potential data center location in the Roanoke region. Regional Public Affairs Manager Clay Allsop said the company is continuing its due diligence and inspection process, which the Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility expects to last through March 2027.
WVRIFA Executive Director John Hull said the project could support jobs, regional tax revenue and community investment. Clearview Dynamics LLC previously entered a purchase agreement with WVRIFA for evaluation of the site. The Western Virginia Water Authority identified Spring Hollow reservoir as the proposed water source, prompting criticism from opponents concerned about the large volumes of water data centers may use. Google also purchased more than 300 acres in Botetourt County for another planned local data center campus.
