Yorkville Resident Labels Council the “Arrogant Eight” During Data Center Meeting

She specifically referenced Pioneer Development's request for an 18-month extension for the Project Cardinal Data Center. Klaus also raised issues about a third-party electric company deal and vowed to campaign against council members seeking re-election.
During a Yorkville City Council meeting, long-term resident MaryJo Klaus vocally criticized the council's decisions regarding data center development and other local issues. Klaus specifically highlighted a request from Pioneer Development, LLC for an 18-month extension to purchase property for the proposed Project Cardinal Data Center. She accused the "eight" council members of arrogance, stating they would be known as the "Arrogant Eight" for overriding the will of Yorkville citizens and failing to consider consequences.
Klaus also raised concerns about the impact of corporate businesses like Olive Garden on existing family-owned establishments and questioned the allocation of funds for turn lanes on Kennedy Road. She further challenged the council on a $72,000 payment received from a third-party electric company, alleging a lack of transparency and accountability regarding the funds' use, which she suggested was spent on "million-dollar furniture" for new city buildings.
Expressing her deep dissatisfaction, Klaus vowed to actively campaign against any council members seeking re-election, threatening to reveal "the truth" about their conduct and policies. She also criticized the City Administrator, Eric Duce, for perceived unprofessionalism and poor planning, demanding that Mayor John control his behavior during public comments. Klaus concluded by stating her intention to see every current council member removed from office.
