Hut 8 data center construction moves forward in West Feliciana Parish
Construction is advancing around the clock on Hut 8's 600,000-square-foot River Bend data center in West Feliciana Parish, with about 1,200 workers currently involved. Local businesses and state officials say the project is already creating economic activity and could produce longer-term technology and career opportunities in Louisiana.
Hut 8 is continuing construction on its River Bend data center in West Feliciana Parish, where crews are working 24 hours a day on the planned 600,000-square-foot facility. About 1,200 workers are currently involved, and the company hosted a tour highlighting the project's progress and expected effects on the surrounding community.
The development is also generating business for companies such as Baton Rouge restaurant Salt Pepper Oak, which is feeding workers at the site. Gov. Jeff Landry described data centers as "digital factories" and said construction could lead to permanent employment opportunities, while local educators said the project may expose students to career paths closer to home. Hut 8 said River Bend is only the beginning of its planned presence in the area, with the full impact expected to unfold over several years.
