Brittany Bloam, a Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania’s 45th House District, says the state should regulate data center growth to protect natural resources, the power grid and residents from higher energy costs. She supports Governor Josh Shapiro’s executive actions and legislation that would establish statewide data center rules while preserving local control over land use.

Brittany Bloam, the Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania’s 45th Assembly District, outlined her priorities in a questionnaire from the West Hills Gazette, including affordability, education, infrastructure and workforce development. She said she would support higher wages, increased taxation of billionaires and additional funding for public schools and transportation.

On data centers, Bloam said environmental impacts and pressure on the electric grid could increase costs for Pennsylvania residents. She supports Gov. Josh Shapiro’s efforts to regulate the industry through executive action and backs Rep. Nick Matzie’s H.B. 1834, which would address data center growth, natural-resource protection and grid impacts while allowing municipalities to retain authority over local land-use decisions.
