The Carlton County Commissioners have unanimously approved a one-year moratorium on plans for any data centers within the county. This decision came shortly after a packed public hearing in Carlton last night, where community members came out to speak on the issue.

The idea for a moratorium originated from meetings earlier this year, when a grassroots group called on county leaders to investigate the potential impacts of data centers. Following the approval, the Carlton County Planning Commission will now utilize the next year to review data center case studies and assess their potential effects.
