Camden adopts local moratorium on data centers
The Camden Town Board unanimously adopted a local moratorium on data centers. This decision followed a public hearing where residents and officials raised concerns about the potential impact on the area's water and electrical resources, particularly the Tug Hill Aquifer.
The Camden Town Board unanimously approved a local moratorium on data centers during its August 17 meeting at Town Hall. This action was taken in response to concerns from officials and residents regarding the potential strain data facilities could place on the area's water and electrical resources, specifically mentioning the Tug Hill Aquifer that underlies Camden and extends toward McConnellsville.
Supervisor Dan Christmas highlighted the "many unintended consequences" that could arise from data center development. Following public discussion on water use, electricity consumption, and environmental effects, the board voted to adopt the moratorium and close the public hearing.
