Posey County special meeting on data center ordinance Monday night
The Posey County Area Plan Commission is holding a special meeting in Mount Vernon, Indiana, to discuss proposed amendments to the county's Unified Development Ordinance regarding data centers. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed rules, which address classification by size, setbacks, and required documentation. This meeting comes amidst vocal opposition from Posey County residents and inquiries from four potential data center developers.
The Posey County Area Plan Commission (APC) convened a special meeting on Monday, July 27, at 5:30 p.m. at Hovey House in Mount Vernon, Indiana, to address proposed amendments to the county's Unified Development Ordinance concerning data center development. The meeting provided a public forum for community input on the new regulations.
The proposed amendments, spanning approximately 12 pages, cover various aspects of data center construction, including classification by size, setback requirements, and necessary documentation. According to Joe Marvel, President of the APC, while no formal applications have been submitted, four entities have made inquiries about the county's existing zoning for data centers.
This discussion follows a previous regular APC meeting where these amendments were initially presented. Posey County residents have actively voiced their opposition to data center projects within the county. This marks the first of potentially several special meetings before the proposal moves to a regular APC meeting for a public hearing, at which point all amendments will be made publicly available online.
