North Texas cities concerned about region’s data center infrastructure, survey says

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has released survey results indicating widespread concern among 31 cities and counties in the North Texas region regarding their preparedness for the rapid expansion of data centers.
The survey, conducted by NCTCOG and released on August 27, found that while local officials generally support data center development, they harbor significant anxieties about the infrastructure demands. A striking 78% of respondents indicated their communities are not yet equipped to manage the increasing strain on power grids, water supplies, policy changes, and environmental impacts associated with data center growth.
Cities and counties that participated in the survey have either approved a data center project in the last decade or are currently considering one. Despite recognizing the potential economic benefits, local governments expressed doubts about the long-term advantages for their communities and raised questions about the role of incentives and job creation. The survey highlights a clear demand for stronger infrastructure, clearer local policies, and mandatory sustainability requirements before further data center development proceeds.
