A proposed data center project in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, is facing delays as a public hearing scheduled for next Monday has been postponed. Mayor Matt Zacher's office announced the postponement in a press release, citing the need for more time to review and distribute information on the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) submitted by PCH WI Holdings LLC.
In conjunction with the project's development, The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is hosting an informational session titled 'Energy in Your Township' to educate residents on the potential impact of the new data center on the local energy grid. Nick Hylla, MREA Executive Director, emphasized the importance of understanding the electricity system and how rates are set, noting the strong emotions surrounding large data center projects. He will be a presenter at tonight's free event at B's Tap House at Two Doors Down Brewing Co.
Mayor Zacher stated that the postponement aims to ensure a transparent and equitable review process for all potential businesses while also safeguarding residents' quality of life and addressing their concerns. A public listening session, for which a date has not yet been scheduled, will also be held. The data center request is expected to be considered at a future planning commission meeting, which will include a public hearing.
