Councilwoman Rohli Booker's ordinances, currently under discussion, aim to establish a committee and enact a moratorium on new data center projects. During this moratorium, the city's Department of Planning Services would be tasked with developing recommendations for future large-scale data center projects, encompassing zoning, approval processes, environmental considerations, and safety protocols.
The proposed measures are not expected to impact the Google data center currently under construction on Adams Center Road in southeast Fort Wayne. The council plans to revisit the matter in mid-October after a lengthy discussion on various amendments to the original legislation.
