INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — As construction ramps up at the Homer City Energy Campus, local leaders are bracing for what could be one of the biggest immediate changes: a surge of people moving into a rural area that is home to about 1,700 residents.
The project is expected to bring about 10,000 people to live and work in and around Homer City, raising questions about whether the region can absorb that growth and what it could mean for housing, infrastructure and transparency from developers.
Officials said the plan is to hire tradespeople locally first, but some out-of-state workers are expected to be needed for the scale of the work. That influx could bring business activity, but it could also strain the local housing market.
