Lincoln County Commissioners to Revisit Data Center Moratorium Monday
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners is set to reconsider a proposed temporary moratorium on data center development. This follows a previous decision to table the measure to gather more information. The discussion is influenced by recent state legislation and growing interest in Nebraska as a data center location.
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners in North Platte, Nebraska, is scheduled to revisit Resolution No. 2026-21 on Monday, a measure proposing a temporary moratorium on data center facilities. The resolution was previously tabled last week as commissioners sought additional information regarding the potential impacts of large-scale data center projects and differing viewpoints on the issue.
The discussion comes as county officials recently attended a Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) meeting focused on data center development, local zoning authority, infrastructure, water usage, power generation, and related state legislation. This timing also aligns with Governor Jim Pillen's recent signing of LB 1261, a new state law establishing requirements for large data center projects to ensure they address their own power needs and collaborate with local communities.
Commissioners are expected to discuss insights gained from the NACO meeting before deciding whether to move forward with the proposed moratorium. The meeting is set for 9:45 a.m. at the Lincoln County Courthouse.
