Records Tie Third Data Center Developer to Hundreds of Acres in Brookwood
Public records reveal Provident Data Centers, through Tuscaloosa 624 Investors LLC, has acquired over 500 acres in Brookwood, Alabama, near an existing substation. This marks the third data center developer acquiring land in the area, following Applied Digital and Youngwoo & Associates. The acquisitions are drawing community concern, leading to a scheduled public meeting in Brookwood.
A third national data center developer, Provident Data Centers, has acquired more than 500 acres in Brookwood, Alabama, under the name Tuscaloosa 624 Investors LLC. This acquisition deepens a cluster of proposed data centers taking shape along the Brookwood Parkway corridor, an area already targeted by Applied Digital and Youngwoo & Associates.
Public records show the land, north of Interstate 20 and west of Brookwood Parkway, was initially annexed into the city of Tuscaloosa and rezoned to heavy industrial. However, the property was subsequently de-annexed by a vote of the Tuscaloosa City Council in October and finalized by Tuscaloosa County Probate Judge Rob Robertson in November, returning it to Brookwood's planning jurisdiction. Provident Data Centers, sharing an address with Tuscaloosa 624 Investors LLC, lists Alabama as a site for planned data centers and the acquired land's proximity to a major substation suggests it qualifies as "powered land" attractive for such developments.
Brookwood Mayor Joe Barger, a member of the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority, has not commented due to broad nondisclosure agreements. However, the city of Brookwood has scheduled a public meeting on September 1st to address residents' concerns about potential industrial developments near homes, Hurricane Creek, and Brookwood Middle School, highlighting ongoing community opposition regarding transparency and project impacts.
