During their July 14, 2026, meeting, Raton City Commissioners heard from several residents regarding a proposed data center project. Public speakers voiced their opposition to the development.

Kimberle Burke, owner of Momma Ks Ice Cream shop, informed the commissioners that she had spoken with multiple individuals and families who have put their house-hunting plans in Raton on hold. She noted that these prospective residents would not move to Raton if the data center is built. Burke also mentioned that a number of current residents are considering selling their homes should the city allow a data center to come to town.
