Michigan Attorney General candidate Eli Savit says the attorney general should intervene before the Michigan Public Service Commission to prevent data centers from shifting electricity costs onto residential customers. He also supports protecting groundwater and helping Michigan communities respond to legal pressure from data center developers.
Eli Savit, a Democratic candidate for Michigan attorney general, outlined a proposed role for the attorney general's office in regulating the effects of data center development across the state. He said the office should intervene before the Michigan Public Service Commission to ensure data center electricity contracts do not increase rates for residential customers.
Savit also said data centers should not use Michigan's groundwater or drinking water without adequate protections. He argued that the attorney general's office should provide legal support to communities facing lawsuits or what he described as legal bullying from wealthy, out-of-state corporations, including communities seeking to block projects, negotiate community benefits agreements or obtain greater transparency.
