Meta is launching a $115 million "America's Workforce Academy" pilot program to provide free training for construction and power generation jobs, supporting the development of its massive Hyperion data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana. The program, which requires no prior experience and pays participants, aims to fill a significant labor gap for data center infrastructure workers, with training expected to begin in Baton Rouge in the fall.

Entergy Louisiana is undertaking its largest-ever customer project by building six gas-fired power plants in Richland Parish to meet the electrical demands of Meta's data center, which is projected to become one of the world's largest. Troy Heytens, vice president of hyperscale execution at Entergy Louisiana, highlighted the scale of the endeavor, while Diana Doukas, Meta's director of U.S. policy, emphasized the need for skilled technicians in the sector.

While Louisiana state and local officials, including GNO, Inc. president and CEO Michael Hecht, have praised the economic benefits and tax revenue generated by the data center construction, environmental organizations like the Sierra Club have voiced concerns. Emma Pabst, manager of Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign in Louisiana, questioned the environmental cost, arguing that public interest should outweigh economic gains.
