Developers Layton Construction and QTS Data Centers have completed the structural phase of a 193-acre data center campus in Eagle Mountain, Utah, with completion expected this year. The project emphasizes its use of a closed-loop cooling system that promises minimal water consumption for operations. Local officials, including Mayor Jared Gray, lauded the $6 billion investment for its economic benefits and job creation.

The structural framework for a 193-acre data center campus in Eagle Mountain, Utah, developed by Layton Construction and QTS Data Centers, is now complete. The final beam of the project was placed during an event attended by approximately 2,000 construction workers.
The development, which began last fall, includes three buildings ranging from 579,000 to 592,000 square feet and is slated for completion later this year. QTS executive vice president of development, Lane Anderson, highlighted the facility's "super efficient" closed-loop cooling system, which is designed to require only an initial fill and no additional water for cooling once operational, addressing a common concern regarding data center water usage.
This system is in contrast to typical evaporative cooling methods, which can consume vast amounts of water, as noted by research firm Mordor Intelligence. The $6 billion QTS campus is projected to create 100 permanent jobs upon completion, a key benefit for Eagle Mountain. Mayor Jared Gray praised the project as a significant investment that will bring long-term, high-quality benefits to the community amidst the city's rapid growth.
