Shasta County residents push for data center rules now
Residents in Shasta County are urging county supervisors to adopt data center regulations before any project is proposed. The group No Data Centers Shasta County has collected more than 2,200 petition signatures, but supervisors did not schedule a future agenda item on the issue.
No Data Centers Shasta County founder Kathy Grissom told the Shasta County Board of Supervisors that the county has no zoning language regulating data centers. She argued that adopting an ordinance in advance would protect the region from unrestricted development and said the group has gathered more than 2,200 petition signatures.
Supervisor Matt Plamer has previously expressed support for regulations but opposition to an outright ban. The debate follows discussion in Redding about potentially attracting data centers, although no formal data center proposal has been identified in Shasta County. Supervisors did not add data center regulation to a future meeting agenda.
