NextNRG CEO says he wants to build solar farm, not data center in Nassau County
NextNRG's CEO has clarified that the company plans to build a solar farm, not an AI data center, on 1,600 acres leased in Nassau County. This comes after social media rumors suggested a data center was planned. County leaders confirm no data center project has been approved.
Social media posts circulating in Nassau County had suggested that a company named Next Energy, later identified as NextNRG, was planning to construct an AI data center. However, county leaders clarified that no such project has been approved.
The CEO of NextNRG stated that the company is not in the data center business. He confirmed that NextNRG leased 1,600 acres from Rainier last year with the primary intention of building a solar farm to provide low-cost energy generation for JEA.
While the company did explore a data center option after encountering some challenges with their initial plans, their main goal remains the solar farm. Construction on the solar farm has not yet commenced, as the project's viability depends on reaching an agreement with JEA. A spokesperson for JEA confirmed that NextNRG has indeed reached out, but no agreement has been finalized.
