Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman is opposing the proposed 800,000-square-foot Trident Data Center near E-470 and 48th Avenue in northeast Aurora. The City Council rejected a broader moratorium on new data center development, but is pursuing site-specific restrictions and has banned evaporative cooling in new buildings because of water-use concerns.

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman is seeking to block the proposed Trident Data Center, an 800,000-square-foot facility planned near E-470 and 48th Avenue in northeast Aurora. Coffman argues the project would be too close to nearby housing and a senior living community, and is calling for a public hearing and city action to stop the development, even if doing so prompts litigation.

The mayor cannot unilaterally halt the project and must win support from the Aurora City Council. Council members rejected a proposed moratorium on new data center development last month. Instead, the city is considering restrictions on individual sites and has banned evaporative cooling systems in new data centers because of their substantial water consumption. The project has received preliminary approval based on existing zoning, according to the report.
