Raeden, the development company behind Project Taurus, faces community concerns over potential noise pollution and significant demands for electricity and water. Raeden Co-Founder Jason Green stated that the level of tension and threats surrounding Project Taurus is unprecedented in the company's seven-year history, leading to increased security measures and operational changes.
Opponents have organized under the banner of Citizens Against Data Centers, staging protests and expressing strong disapproval of placing an industrial facility in close proximity to residential areas and natural landmarks. Zurit Horowitz, a representative for the group, characterized the project as a "get-rich-quick scheme" that disregards the quality of life in the scenic area.
In anticipation of the potentially contentious council session, the Colorado Springs Police Department plans to deploy additional security personnel, although no specific threats related to the event are currently under investigation. The City Council will convene on Thursday, Sept. 17, to make a decision on the appeal.
