Radiant Technology Corp, a crypto mining firm headquartered in Virginia, is slated to commence operations in South Sioux City, Nebraska, by 2026. South Sioux City City Manager Lance Hedquist announced that the business will be situated in an industrially zoned area adjacent to an electric substation, with the city incurring no expenses for its establishment. The firm is projected to generate $800,000 in annual revenues for South Sioux City.
Hedquist indicated that the South Sioux City Council is not expected to debate new regulations for future data center requests in the near term. This stance contrasts with a trend observed in other Nebraska communities, where several have enacted moratoriums on new data center projects amidst growing scrutiny from residents regarding their impact.
Conversely, leaders in Kearney, Nebraska, are actively embracing the data center industry. Kearney has become one of the first cities in the state to implement a specific zoning ordinance for data centers, which includes restrictions on factors such as noise, water consumption, and energy use. Kearney City Manager Brenda Jensen stated that the aim of this ordinance is to regulate the industry rather than impose a ban.
