The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) is set to host a public presentation on March 31 regarding "Data Centers in the Delaware River Basin – An Update" at its Narrowsburg, NY office and via Zoom. Amanda Khalil, a water resources scientist with the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), will be the featured speaker. Khalil will detail the DRBC technical staff's ongoing efforts to monitor existing and proposed data centers within the basin.
The DRBC is particularly interested in data center growth due to their significant water demands. Data centers require water for direct cooling of equipment and indirectly for the thermoelectric energy generation needed to power them. Khalil will elaborate on how the DRBC aims to understand and manage these potential water resource impacts. Khalil, who completed her master’s degree in environmental science at Stockton University, joined the DRBC full-time in 2024 after an internship in 2023.
