The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners approved two resolutions concerning data centers. The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners recently weighed in on data center development, approving a pair of resolutions during a Wednesday meeting. One resolution commends local municipalities that have already implemented data center moratoriums and actively encourages other localities to consider similar measures. Commission Vice-Chair Justin Hodge noted that this version of the resolution was an improvement over a prior draft, which had specifically targeted the University of Michigan's plans for a new computing facility. Despite the revisions, the University of Michigan's project did not escape the Commissioners' attention entirely. A separate resolution was passed to endorse a bill put forth by State Representative Jimmy Wilson Jr. This proposed legislation seeks to revoke $100 million in state funding allocated for the University of Michigan's joint computing facility project with the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
