A massive water leak was discovered at a Bitcoin mining data center in El Reno, Oklahoma, resulting in an estimated loss of 3 million gallons of water. City leaders confirmed the facility is owned by Blockchain Technology, LLC, and have urged residents to conserve water.
News 4 has confirmed a massive water leak was found at a Bitcoin mining data center located on private property south of I-40 along Jensen Road in El Reno, Oklahoma.
County leaders identified Blockchain Technology, LLC, as the owner of the property. According to a website launched by the company, they develop and operate high-performance data centers. El Reno city leaders confirmed the facility on Jensen Road is a mining center for digital currency, specifically Bitcoin, and stated that the leaking private line connects to a fire hydrant.
The city estimates that 3 million gallons of water were lost before service to the property was shut off. Following the shut-off, water levels at the El Reno water tower immediately began increasing. Residents are now being asked to continue conserving water and avoid outdoor watering until full water service can be restored. News 4 attempted to contact an entity referred to as "Apple On" but has not yet received a response.
