LSU Health Shreveport Scientists Help Unlock Deadly Hantavirus Mysteries
A report claims the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has continued reviewing data center-related applications despite Gov. Greg Abbott’s directive to pause approvals. The report cites stormwater approvals, emissions certifications, air-quality notices and expedited reviews, prompting a call for a statewide data center moratorium.
Researchers at LSU Health Shreveport are studying how hantaviruses enter human cells, collaborating with the Pasteur Institute in Paris and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Their findings were published in Nature and could support the development of treatments for the rare but deadly viruses.
The broadcast also reports on a dispute in Texas over data center approvals. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality says it has not issued permits for data centers or supporting infrastructure since Gov. Greg Abbott directed the state to pause approvals. However, Sam Law of FracTracker said agency records show continued regulatory activity, including stormwater approvals, emissions certifications, air-quality permit notices and expedited reviews of generator and gas-plant applications. Law argued that the activity demonstrates the need for a complete statewide moratorium on data centers.
