Letters to the Editor: Keller resident raises concerns about proposed Westlake data center
A letter writer from Keller praised a Dallas News article about AI energy use and raised concerns about the proposed 350-megawatt Circle T Data Center near Westlake. The writer questioned potential noise, air pollution, light and property-value impacts and urged stronger setbacks and permitting standards for data centers.
A Keller resident praised Dallas News’ coverage of the energy demands of artificial intelligence and data centers, while expressing concern about the proposed 350-megawatt Circle T Data Center in Westlake, located about 500 feet from the writer’s property. The writer questioned whether the project could violate Texas nuisance laws related to noise, air pollution, light and property values.
The resident said they had sought information from the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality about applicable standards and enforcement. They called for a possible one-mile setback between data centers and residential communities and suggested suspending new permits until applicants demonstrate compliance. The remainder of the letters package addressed Texas politics, Gov. Greg Abbott, an Irving ISD bond election and Social Security.
