Dostal Catering in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is experiencing an unprecedented surge in business, attributed to the ongoing construction of data centers in the area. Owner Jeff Mumm reported that the company received its first major order in November from a construction company working on a local data center, providing a Thanksgiving meal for 3,200 workers.

Since then, the catering business has been mostly booked, fulfilling subsequent large orders including 4,200 and later 5,000 box lunches. The boom has led Dostal Catering to seek new hires to keep up with demand.

Mumm highlighted that these are the largest orders his company has received in its 32 years of operation, marking a significant turnaround compared to being shut down for seven months during the COVID-19 pandemic.
