Zoning concerns rise in latest Stokes County resident survey

A recent citizen satisfaction survey in Stokes County, North Carolina, reveals a significant shift in residents' priorities, with land use and zoning now ranked among the most important issues by nearly a third of respondents, up from a quarter last year. This change is directly linked to the public discourse surrounding a large data center rezoning proposal in Walnut Cove.
Stokes County Manager Jeff Sanborn informed county commissioners that satisfaction with both zoning regulations and their enforcement has declined this year, directly attributing this to the data center rezoning debate. Despite this particular shift in concerns, Sanborn noted that overall resident sentiment about the county's direction remained relatively stable, with about 39% believing it's moving in the right direction and approximately 9 out of 10 considering it a good or excellent place to live.
