Microsoft has announced a redirection of its annual $5 million development incentive in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, allocating the funds toward property tax relief and public infrastructure. The incentive stems from a 2023 agreement when the tech giant first announced its plans for a data center in the area. Of the total, $4.9 million will go directly to the Village of Mount Pleasant to reduce the tax levy, stabilize property tax rates, and cover capital expenses like road rebuilding and the purchase of new police and fire vehicles, aiming to prevent the village from incurring interest costs from borrowing.
An additional $100,000 will be directed to the Racine County Economic Development Corporation (RCEDC) to support countywide business attraction and economic growth initiatives. This announcement follows the Village of Mount Pleasant's approval on January 26 for 15 more Microsoft data centers, expanding an AI project that officials believe could become the world's largest supercomputer. Construction for these new facilities is expected to commence later this year, building on the first data center completed in summer 2026 and a second currently under construction with an anticipated completion in 2028.
