Entergy Louisiana CEO Phillip May disclosed that Meta’s planned AI data center in Richland Parish could require up to 4,500 megawatts of peak power. Entergy says the demand supports construction of 10 new natural-gas plants, which are awaiting an expedited vote by the Louisiana Public Service Commission.

Entergy CEO Phillip May accidentally revealed that Meta’s planned Hyperion AI data center in Richland Parish, near Holly Ridge and Rayville, could have a peak electricity demand of 4,500 megawatts. That is roughly four times the peak demand of New Orleans and had been kept confidential by Entergy and Meta.

Entergy and Meta have argued that releasing the figure could cause business harm, while ratepayer advocates have sought the information in court. May disclosed the number while defending plans to build 10 natural-gas plants to serve the facility ahead of an expedited Louisiana Public Service Commission vote expected as early as November.
