Hubbard, Ohio residents are actively opposing "Project Milo," a proposed data center, after Mayor Ben Kyle signed a non-disclosure agreement with the unnamed company. Community members are demanding transparency from local officials regarding the development.
Hubbard, Ohio residents are voicing strong opposition to "Project Milo," a proposed data center, following revelations that City Mayor Ben Kyle signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) regarding the project. The mayor's decision, which he stated was to protect the company's trade secrets and financial details, has sparked immediate backlash on social media and prompted two homeowners to canvass the city, urging residents to fight the development.
In response to community concerns, Hubbard Township trustees have enacted a one-year moratorium on new data centers. Despite this, the project continues to be explored, with potential sites including the now-closed Deer Creek Golf Course, which was annexed into the city but remains surrounded by township property. Township Trustee Jason Tedrow expressed disagreement with the NDA, emphasizing the importance of transparency and public input for elected officials.
Mayor Kyle informed 21 News that signing NDAs is common in the early stages of such projects. He clarified that "Project Milo" is currently in a utility review phase, considering multiple locations with transmission lines, not solely Deer Creek. Kyle assured the public that there would be ample opportunities for community members to voice their concerns as the project progresses.
