Gaines Township in Michigan has approved a sound study for the site of a proposed Microsoft data center. The study aims to establish a baseline of ambient sound in the 400-acre area, located near 68th Street and Paterson, south of an existing Amazon facility. This baseline will be used for comparison if the project moves forward.
Kyle Mitchell reported that neighbors are largely supportive of the study, which they advocated for, but continue to express significant concerns about potential noise and vibrations from the proposed cloud storage data center. While the township noted no complaints from a nearby Switch facility north of M6, neighbors worry about the impact of this much larger development. The study is expected to conclude in the spring of next year after measuring various frequencies.
