Public comments at recent Boone City Council meetings have focused on Lightedge's possible colocation data center in Boone Business Park. The proposal has drawn both opposition over land, water, electricity and noise concerns and support based on lower resource use, available power and potential tax revenue.

Public comments at two recent Boone City Council meetings have centered on a possible Lightedge colocation facility in Boone, Iowa, although the proposal has not yet been placed on the council's agenda. The Boone County Economic Growth Corporation Executive Board reached a tentative agreement in September to make about 10 acres in Boone Business Park available for the project.

Opponents have raised concerns about data centers' land and resource demands, including water and electricity use, as well as noise. Supporters say the proposed colocation facility would primarily provide data storage, use relatively little water, generate limited noise, connect to power supplied by Alliant Energy and expand the local property-tax base.
