Lawmakers examine Pennsylvania's energy resources amid growing demand
Pennsylvania lawmakers held an informational hearing on the state’s energy resources as data center expansion drives sharply higher electricity demand. Officials warned that limited power supplies and needed infrastructure could create reliability challenges, while lawmakers considered who should pay for the upgrades.
The Pennsylvania House Energy Committee held an informational hearing in Harrisburg on the state’s energy resources and worsening electricity supply concerns. Fox 43 reporter Macy Markham said the state is confronting an energy crisis as data centers expand across Pennsylvania and neighboring states, creating substantial new demand for power.
The hearing also focused on the infrastructure needed to serve the facilities and whether data center operators, utilities or other parties should bear those costs. Energy leaders said Pennsylvania must address the issue quickly as demand continues to rise and existing supply constraints persist.
