Bastrop County commissioners OK request for TCEQ meeting on gas plant concerns
Bastrop County commissioners approved a resolution requesting a public meeting with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality about an air permit for Pacifico Energy’s proposed 48-turbine gas plant in Cedar Creek. Residents oppose the facility, which would provide power to two data center buildings, citing concerns about air pollution, noise and the lack of public notice and comment.
Bastrop County commissioners approved a resolution asking the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to hold a public meeting on an air permit for a proposed 48-turbine natural gas plant in Cedar Creek. Pacifico Energy’s facility would generate about 1,300 megawatts and is intended to power two data center buildings associated with Anthropic.
Residents told commissioners they are concerned about air pollution, noise and the permitting process, which they say does not require public notice or public comment. The request does not require TCEQ to hold a hearing. State Rep. Stan Gerdes has also raised concerns, while county officials said their authority to regulate the project is limited and indicated they may work with other counties on legislative changes.
