Wolfe County resident frustrated by ongoing industrial hum of data center
Residents in rural Wolfe County, Kentucky, are frustrated by the constant industrial hum from a data center operated by Artemis Power Tech. The noise, caused by cooling fans, has reportedly disturbed the peace for nearly three years, leading residents to question the economic benefits versus quality of life impacts. Local leaders view the tax revenue as beneficial for one of Kentucky's poorest counties, despite ongoing resident opposition.
Residents in a rural Wolfe County, Kentucky community are experiencing an "industrial hum" from a neighboring data center that has been ongoing for nearly three years. Barbara Campbell, a local homeowner, states the constant noise from cooling fans used for high-powered computer equipment has disrupted daily life and could negatively impact property values.
According to the report, the computer company, Artemis Power Tech, moved into the area unannounced. After LEX 18 investigates began looking into the noise and questioned the company, Artemis installed a tarp over the metal fencing. The data center has generated $11,450 in tax revenue for Wolfe County. Efforts to contact Wolfe County Judge Executive Raymond Banks for comment on the data center's impacts were unsuccessful.
Campbell expressed her frustration, asking if decisions would always prioritize money and when legislators would listen to the people. She hopes other communities will be inspired to "fight back" against similar issues.
