Clinton Township supervisors unanimously rejected a proposal for a 20-building data center campus from Linde Corporation, a decision that sparked widespread celebration among local residents. The rejection followed nearly six months of community meetings and was based, in part, on an engineer's assessment that the plan was not environmentally sound.
The 'Save Browndale Mountain Group,' formed in July, actively campaigned against the project, raising funds for legal counsel and advocating for the protection of Browndale Mountain. Members expressed immense relief and delight at the outcome, viewing it as a significant step towards safeguarding the township's land.
Township supervisors Chairman Ken Coles stated that Linde's application was incomplete and insufficient for approval, giving the supervisors no alternative but to deny it. However, the fight may not be entirely over, as attorneys are scheduled to meet with Linde within 15 days to discuss the deficiencies, potentially opening the door for the company to resubmit a revised proposal. Opponents affirmed their readiness to continue protecting their community if necessary.
