Wilson County’s data center committee debates new regulations, hears positive feedback from neighboring county

The Wilson County Data Center Advisory Committee is actively working on a proposal to regulate data center site locations within the county. The committee's focus includes factors such as power consumption, water usage, and overall facility size, with a proposed minimum site design of 72 acres.
This regulatory effort in Wilson County contrasts with Rutherford County, where leaders are considering a moratorium on data center development. Meanwhile, Rosemary Bates, Gallatin Economic Development Director, addressed the Wilson County committee, sharing positive experiences regarding the Meta data center in Sumner County.
Bates highlighted the economic benefits, including hundreds of jobs, and the substantial property taxes, which she believes could become Wilson County's largest single revenue stream. She also noted Meta's community considerations, such as minimizing night construction and fully funding a road extension and utility installations without requesting state incentives. Bates emphasized that developers have learned from past mistakes, opting for sites away from neighborhoods with adequate buffering.
