Minneapolis data center pause heads back to City Council
The Minneapolis Business, Housing and Zoning Committee has voted to recommend a moratorium on data center construction and expansion. This pause is intended to allow the city to draft new regulations for such developments. The recommendation now proceeds to the Minneapolis City Council for further consideration.
The Minneapolis Business, Housing and Zoning Committee has recommended a moratorium on new data center construction and expansion within the city. Following over an hour of public testimony on Tuesday, the committee voted 5-1 to advance the proposal.
Supporters of the moratorium argue that it is necessary to provide the city with sufficient time to develop and enact new regulations specifically addressing data center development. The initiative will now move to the full Minneapolis City Council for a final decision.
