Angels Camp Eyes Data Center Moratorium
Angels Camp, California, is considering a 45-day moratorium on data centers, similar to a measure planned in Calaveras County. The Angels Camp City Council will vote on the proposed halt due to concerns about a lack of regulatory framework and potential impacts on energy, water, and other resources. This temporary measure would allow the city time to develop long-term ordinances.
The Angels Camp City Council is scheduled to vote on a proposed 45-day moratorium on data center developments, following a similar initiative by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors for unincorporated areas. The Angels Camp vote, requiring a 4/5 majority, is set for Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The city's meeting documents cite the absence of a comprehensive regulatory framework for data center projects and potential adverse impacts on energy, water, noise, heat, and vibration as primary reasons for the proposed pause. This temporary measure aims to provide the city with time to review the issue thoroughly and formulate a more permanent ordinance.
Simultaneously, the city council meeting will also address other local ordinances, including an amendment related to home-based barbering and cosmetology, and a proposal to streamline permitting for Electric Vehicle and Hydrogen Charging Stations to comply with new state mandates.
