Richland Parish data center's economic impacts
A new economic report highlights growth in Richland Parish, including increased sales tax revenue and a surge in commercial construction linked in part to Meta's data center project. Analysts say the investment could create higher-paying construction jobs and opportunities for local workers and small businesses.
Richland Parish is seeing substantial economic growth, with sales tax collections rising from $170 million to $240 million over two years and commercial construction activity increasing. Michael Crenshaw, founder of Crenshaw Analytics, attributed the gains to outside investment, higher local paychecks and population growth.
The report also examines the potential effects of Meta's large data center project in the parish. Crenshaw said the development could provide construction employment paying significantly more than workers might earn outside the region, while creating opportunities for local businesses and young people seeking careers close to home.
