Lancaster City Council is scheduled to finalize its first-ever data center rules by voting on a proposed zoning ordinance amendment. The vote was previously delayed due to unclear language regarding how the ordinance would affect already-approved data centers.

The Lancaster City Council is poised to vote on and finalize the city's inaugural data center regulations at its upcoming meeting. This vote follows a delay from its June 24 meeting, where concerns were raised over ambiguous language within the proposed zoning ordinance amendment.

City officials, including Christopher Delfs, Director of Community Planning and Economic Development, clarified that the new ordinance is not intended to apply to data centers already approved at 216 Greenfield Road and 1375 Harrisburg Pike. These existing projects are governed by a community benefits agreement with the developer, Chirisa Technology Parks.

However, council members noted that a specific line in the ordinance made it appear as though the new rules would indeed impact these pre-approved facilities. The forthcoming vote aims to resolve these linguistic ambiguities and officially adopt the new regulatory framework.
