A proposed data center campus near Dove Creek, Texas, is advancing through the permitting process with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The developer has applied for an air permit that would enable the facility to operate on-site natural gas engines for electricity generation. Under maximum permitted conditions, these engines are projected to annually emit significant quantities of pollutants, including an estimated 1,177.2 tons of carbon monoxide, 419.3 tons of nitrogen oxides, and 117.2 tons of sulfur dioxide. The facility plans to utilize SCR and oxidation catalysts to mitigate these emissions.
The project is currently undergoing TCEQ review, which involves assessing emissions, conducting air dispersion modeling, and opening a period for public comment. While final stack heights are pending, similar facilities typically employ stacks ranging from 50 to 80 feet tall. The permitting process will conclude with the setting of final emission limits and stack requirements by TCEQ.
