Microsoft plans to begin construction on a large data center in Granger, Indiana in late April or early May. The 900-acre project will include six data center buildings, each employing around 50 people for a total of 300 jobs. Microsoft will not seek any tax abatements and will pay full property taxes, providing revenue for local governments. They will fund all infrastructure upgrades, including road expansions, as well as the costs to bring in Mishawaka water and sewer and upgrade the electrical grid. The data center will use Mishawaka water rather than drawing from the local aquifer. Microsoft will also set up training programs at local schools to prepare residents for jobs at the facility. A community meeting is planned for late April or early May to discuss the project.
