Aurora Mayor calls for special meeting regarding data center application process
Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman has called a special City Council meeting to consider a moratorium on new data center applications while the city develops updated regulations. The proposed moratorium would not apply to Vantage’s data center application, which has already entered the city review process, but nearby residents continue to oppose the project over noise, electricity use and water consumption.
Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman called a special City Council meeting for Oct. 19 to consider a resolution that could pause new data center applications until the city adopts updated development regulations. Coffman said the proposed moratorium would apply only to future permits and could take effect immediately if approved.
The action follows protests by residents near Vantage’s proposed data center site, a more than 100-acre property near East 48th Avenue and E-470. Residents cited noise, electricity demand and water use as concerns. Vantage said it respects Aurora’s authority to review policies for future development and remains committed to working with city leaders and residents. The existing Vantage application would continue through the city’s review process because it was submitted before the proposed resolution.
