Candidates at an Oct. 7 forum hosted by the Concerned Black Women of Calvert County addressed transparency, public access and the county’s handling of potential data center development. Several candidates criticized the current commissioners for discussing data centers with prospective developers in closed sessions and for failing to adequately inform the public.

Incumbent commissioners Catherine Grasso and Mike Hart acknowledged shortcomings in the county’s communication with residents. Hart said he introduced a motion in March to implement a two-year moratorium on data center development, while candidates including Patti Stueckler, Judy Pedersen, Jason Scaggs and Ethan Cox called for greater disclosure, public meetings and accountability. The organization said it would not endorse candidates.
